Obituary for Dennis Walter Hancock

HANCOCK, Dennis Walter

Dennis passed away suddenly on Sunday, May, 28,2023, in his 70th year, with his loving family by his side at the Kingston General Hospital.

Dennis is survived by his wife Sharon (nee Haird); daughter Amanda (Derek); son Andrew (Sara) and his two grandchildren Emma and Matthew. Dennis is also survived by his brothers Allan (Peggy), Tony (Carolyn), Tim (Julie), and many nieces and nephews. Dennis is predeceased by his parents, John Walter and Marion Hancock (nee Armstrong) .

Dennis was born on May 26th, 1953, to John Walter and Marion (nee Armstrong) in Belleville, Ontario, where he grew up with three younger brothers, Allan, Tony, and Tim and the family dog, Rin.

Dennis started his career working for his uncle, building houses in Belleville. He then started at Griffin Brothers for 18 years and then moved to Tackaberry Construction, where he eventually retired.

Sharon wanted to take Dennis on a trip to Hawaii, and his mother, Marion, said it wasn't proper because they were not married. Therefore, the two tied the knot on November 17th, 1978, and headed to Hawaii.

Not long after, they had two beautiful children, Amanda, and Andrew. Dennis enjoyed spending time with his children fishing, day trips, and air shows in Trenton. When you're younger, your parent is your parent, but Dennis became Andrews's best friend; from four-wheeling on the weekends to hanging out in the garage, the two shared a special bond. Amanda stayed daddy's little girl as she will forever.

When Dennis's grandchildren were born, although intimidated, Emma and Matthew were the apples of his eye, and he took every opportunity to tease them.

Dennis enjoyed many things, from cooking to hunting, fishing with his brothers and friends, and playing cards throughout the day. His passion was riding his motorcycle, taking day trips, and stopping at every pub for a beer.

The door was always open for friends and family. A come-and-go celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the homestead. Let's raise a beer and celebrate Dennis's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 110-1525 Carling Avenue , Ottawa, Ontario K1Z 8R9 would be appreciated by the family.
