Obituary for Hubert Groot
GROOT, Hubert
October 31, 1940 - May 17, 2023
A blessed man, Hubert Groot, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with Jesus after a final brave struggle with cancer following a life well-lived.
He was born and raised in Hilversum, Netherlands and married his high school sweetheart Joyce ("Joke") Glijn on October 25, 1963. They immigrated to Canada in 1964, where they lived an adventurous life together, raising children, working hard, serving their various churches and communities, making many fond memeories, and walking humbly with their God.
Hubert was blessed to serve many church communities on organ and piano, expressing the joy of his faith through music. He was also an avid sailor, handyman, and entrepreneur, a man who lived life to the full.
Hubert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce, his daughter Monique (Ron) Kok of Ottawa and son Hugh (Cindy) Groot of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his dearly loved grandchildren Zoe Kok, Kylie (Jordan) Coffman, Elias Kok, Tyler (Annalyse) Groot and Aaron Groot, and a fondly-anticipated great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by grandson Jared Groot, who was ready to greet him in Heaven.
A Celebration of Life will be held shortly at Bayridge Alliance Church in Kingston. Information will be available on their website at https://bayridgealliance.ca/ . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kingston Motel Ministry through Bayridge Alliance Church website as above.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at both Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital. We thank the Bayridge Alliance Church congregation and extended family and friends for your prayers and support, which gave us strength and carried us through this last part of Hubert's earthly journey.
