Obituary for Alexander Hughson Ross

ROSS, Alexander Hughson

Unexpectedly on March, 23,2023 in Kingston, after a short battle with endocarditis. Ever the genealogist, Dad would want you to know all the details. Born November 3, 1945, in Toronto to Donald Mackenzie Ross and Ruth Elizabeth Galvin. He was predeceased by his only brother, Donald “Sandy” Ross and grandsons Nathaniel and Samuel White. He leaves behind his wife, Linda Ross (née Bell), daughters Amanda Ross-White (Michael White) and Katherine Ross (Darryl Montgomery) and grandchildren, Rebecca and Alexander White. Born and raised in the Kingsway, where he went to Michael Power and Etobicoke Collegiate, then later to Sir George Williams in Montreal. He moved to Mississauga once he got married. Dad coached our softball teams, taught us to drive stick and do a perfect drift into the corners. Once he retired, for the second time, he and Linda moved to Amherstview to be close to the grandchildren. They delighted in eating Gumpy’s brownies and famous fries. Here he was involved in the United Empire Loyalists and the Kingston Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. Alex could talk the hind leg off a dog, so we are finding our world a lot quieter now. We wish we had been better listeners. Honour his memory by writing down stories while you still can, making a friend out of a stranger and learning to fly a kite. In lieu of flowers, donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation at uhkf.ca would be appreciated. We are very grateful for the care he received these past few days. Please join us for a celebration of his life at Edith Rankin Memorial United Church, 4080 Bath Rd. Kingston on Saturday, April 1. Visitation at 10:00am, Service at 11:00am
