Obituary for Kenneth Wesley Harris

HARRIS, Kenneth Wesley
1949-2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Wesley Harris of Seeley’s Bay on February 18, 2023 at age 73. Survived by his best friend and wife of 50 years, Kathy (nee Moulton). Fantastic father of Jaimie Gee (Steve) and Greg Harris (Shara). Much loved Poppa of Reed and Graham Gee and Morgan and Taylor Harris. Brother of Dale Quarterman (Bob). Uncle to Katie and Christina as well an abundance of nieces and nephews on Kathy’s side of the family. Predeceased by his parents Leonard and Fern Harris. Ken will be forever missed and loved by so many, including his many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Born in Kingston, Ken grew up in the Reddendale area, where he attended R.G. Sinclair Public School. His grandchildren get to see his smiling face on a wall of the school as they walk past it every day. Ken never missed an opportunity to point his picture out to them. It made him happy to know his grandchildren attend the same school that he did and are growing up in the same neighbourhood.

Ken worked at Queen’s University in the IT Department where he met the love of his life. He retired from there after 42 years. Growing up he was an avid outdoorsman and athlete, which continued his whole life. His love of sports included hockey, baseball, squash, golf, pickle ball and hockey refereeing. The refereeing took him into supervising OHA and OUAA where he loved to mentor other young referees. In his final year as a supervisor, he was awarded The Most Deserving Official in Ontario, something he was very proud of.

It brought him great joy that his grandchildren share his love of sports. His grandsons, Reed and Graham, followed his path into hockey. He made sure to be at all their games, near and far, and was proud to see them both be very successful. He always looked forward to zooming down the highway on a road trip with his daughter Jaimie to watch the boy’s play. His love of water was passed down to his granddaughters, Morgan and Taylor. He never missed an opportunity to watch them swim, whether it was in the pool competitively or having fun in the lake. His grandchildren were all very lucky to have Poppa as their biggest cheerleader.

When the ice was gone every year he headed to the golf course, where he quickly became a very
accomplished golfer. He loved the game but he also loved meeting and spending time with his friends on any golf course they could find, including the ones in Myrtle Beach. If he wasn’t on the golf course he would be on the water. Nothing made him happier than to teach both his children to fish and love the water. He was thrilled to get invited by his son to go fishing, especially out on the big waters on Greg’s boat that he designed himself.

It made him happy that he was able to build a home on the water, where his family could gather for holidays, bonfires and boat rides. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family.

He will be dearly missed by his lifelong friends, Graham and Joyce Moore, a friendship that spanned 60 years. Wherever Kenny went, he made friends. Our longtime neighbours , Angelo and Claudia D’Alessandro, quickly became family and he enjoyed sitting at their table and sharing a glass of grappa.

If Kenny had the opportunity, he would have liked to thank Jeff and Tracy Moulton, Connie and Bill Larson and Elaine Carr, plus many more, for their continued support and kindness when he needed it.

His Kenny-isms will be missed forever.

In keeping with Ken’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
