Obituary for Harvey Sterling Quantrill

QUANTRILL, Harvey

Harvey Sterling Quantrill, cherished husband and adored father and grandfather, left us peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Harvey was the loving husband of Carolyn (nee Elliott) for 54 years. Dear father to Jeff (Krista) and Kylie. Proud and adoring “Grandpa” to Rebeca, and “Papa Harvey” to Evan and Cameron.

He leaves behind siblings Bonnie Kernaghan (Don), Leslie Carroll (Cliff) and Rob Quantrill (Carolyn), as well as several beloved nieces and nephews and their children. Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Quantrill and Doris Quantrill (nee Glinz).

Harvey was born on September 14, 1944. He grew up as an Air Force brat on several airbases across Canada. In school he was a natural athlete who excelled at everything from football to gymnastics.

After a career at Ontario Hydro, Harvey spent much of his time tending to the gardens with Carolyn and doting on his grandchildren. He also loved to spend much of the summer at the camp on Centennial Lake, a tradition Jeff and his family carry on today.

In life, Harvey was an athlete, electrician, all around handy-man, rescuer of children stuck in trees, prankster and an avid grower of vegetables, grapes and flowers. Harvey was always there to help neighbours and friends when needed, and it has been heartening to see neighbours and their grown children returning this kindness over the last couple of years.

As Harvey would not have wanted a funeral or service, the family will organize a gathering for family and friends to meet and share memories in early Spring.

If you wish to make a donation in his honour, we suggest the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON Canada) Unit#1-745 Progress Avenue, Kingston, Ontario K7M 6S4 or The Alzheimer Society of Kingston Unit#4-400 Elliott Avenue, Kingston, Ontario K7K 6M9.
