Obituary for Theodore D. Phillips

PHILLIPS, Theodore D.

Theodore D. Phillips died peacefully on January 6, 2023 at Providence Manor. Thank you so much to the staff at Providence Manor who cared for Ted with such love and compassion, particularly the staff on Sydenham 4.

Ted began his long and full life on June 13, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. After a stint in the U.S. Navy, he got his Masters Degree in Library Sciences. This eventually led to a long career in university libraries in various cities in Canada, starting at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Ted had many passions in life including a lifelong love of reading and photography. His greatest passion was music. He sang in many choirs and choral societies. He also sang in many musicals over the years. He was most proud of his role as Fagan in the musical Oliver. As his grandchildren will attest to, with a smile, Ted would sing to anyone, anywhere, any time.

Ted leaves behind the legacy of a beautiful family that begins with his marriage to Laurel (Clarke/Trull). They had 2 daughters together - Julia and Lisa.

Ted had an amazing 44 years with his second wife, Elinor (Brown) who was a much-loved stepmom and grandmother. Elinor died in June 2017.

Ted was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Nigel, Marissa and Mallory and their respective partners Melanie, Jim and Dave.

Much to his delight, Ted had 6 great-grandchildren - Gibson, Rowan, Casper, Luca, Maisy and his namesake, Teddy.

Family and friends will be gathering in early spring this year to celebrate Ted’s life.

Ted was such a positive person. His charm and laughter captured the heart of everyone he met. He was so loved and will be deeply missed.
