Obituary for Gabrielle Rita Palardy (née Labbé)
PALARDY, Gabrielle Rita (née Labbé)
December 27, 1926 –September 6, 2022
It is with sadness that the family of Rita Palardy announce her passing. Rita was predeceased by the love of her life (1959) Alcide Palardy. Also, predeceased by her 16 siblings and their spouses.
Rita raised her 2 young children as a single mother while fostering over 150 babies. She found such joy in helping others. She followed her grown children to Calgary where she became a group home mother for the Calgary Association for the Mentally Handicapped until her retirement 1990. She then helped raise her grandchildren while the parents worked for and moved with the military. This eventually brought her to Kingston in 2002. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God and religion, and for her devotion to her family. The smell of baked bread and cookies will always bring sweet memories of mom. The world was made a greater place by her presence.
She will always be in the hearts of Rachelle (Mike Wertwyn) and Marc (Brenda McCool). She will also be profoundly missed by her grandchildren Gordon and Natalie Dupuis, Chelsea Maranchuk (Doug), Donavin, Caitlin, Zachary and Angelina Palardy, and by her bonus grandchildren Paul Wertwyn (Bibiana), Richard Wertwyn (Jennifer) and Jolene Steele (Lou), and all her great-grandchildren.
A mass followed by a celebration of life will take place at 11 am on Friday, October 21, 2022 at St Kevin’s Catholic Church in Welland, Ontario.
