Obituary for John Archibald King CD

KING, John Archibald CD

John passed away peacefully in the evening of July 24, 2022 having passed the milestone of his 100th birthday. He was the husband of Ethel King and was married 73 years until her death. He is survived by 5 children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by 3 sons.

John was born in Oak Point, New Brunswick (where he was known as Archie) on the Miramichi, June 9, 1922. He enlisted in the army during World War 2 and chose to remain a military man in Signals Corp for the rest of his career, retiring at 50 years old. He and Ethel and their first four children moved to Ontario from Truro, Nova Scotia in 1955, making it their home for the rest of their lives. Their last four children were born in Kingston. After he retired, he went to work for Kimco Iron and Steel as a driver.

John loved to drive and would very frequently drive down to the Maritimes to visit relatives. His trips consisted of driving all the way down to New Brunswick in one day, stay a day or maybe two, then drive all the way back in one day. His stamina was amazing. He continued to do this up until Covid quarantines curtailed his trips, to his dismay, the year he turned 98.

Sincere thanks and appreciation go out to all of the caring staff of Rideaucrest and KGH who took care of John in his last days.

In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place.
