Obituary for Joyce Sorge

SORGE, Joyce (nee Strickland)
1935 – 2022

Every morning, Mom opened the Whig Standard newspaper to the obituary pages and jokingly said, “Just checking to see if I’m here.” Well Mom, nearly six months into your 87th year, I’m sad to say you’re here. Mom passed on Monday, March 7, 2022 in the early evening after nearly five days in the KGH.

Throughout her life, Mom defied the odds whether it was polio as a child or dementia in her senior years. Thanks to her “Village of Ladies,” who arrived as companions and quickly became cherished friends, Mom remained living in her own apartment through the end of her life. From daily Tim’s visits and shopping for nothing in particular, to nightly dinners and game shows, Mom’s “Village” made her feel important, loved and safe at home. I’m lucky to have you all in my life now and forever.

Special thank you to the EMTs and the KGH’s ER and Connell 3 doctors and nurses. Mom was so fortunate to have such dedicated medical professionals caring for her (and me) during her final days.

In late spring, we’ll have a tea party to celebrate Mom’s life. In the meantime, please feel free to share your memories or condolences online at www.simplertimes.com.

“Somewhere in time,
I came to realize,
Love never goes away.”

Your Daughter,
Lisa xo
