Obituary for Mary "Eileen" Patricia Sones

SONES, Mary “Eileen” Patricia

Mary “Eileen” Patricia Sones passed away March 21, 2021 at Providence Manor Kingston in her 91st year.
Born in Cornwall November 3, 1930, eldest daughter of Hazel and Wilfred McCormick, she married John James Sones II on September 2, 1950 in Cornwall. In 1960 they moved with their family of five children
and relocated to Brockville where their sixth child was born.

Eileen is survived by: six children, John (Meena) of Ottawa, Tom (Nancy) of Gabriola Island, BC, Nancy Chiasson (Daniel) of Baddeck, NS, Stephen (Yari) of Kingston, James (Joan) of Brockville, Richard (Elizabeth) of Vancouver, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, her sisters Sheila MacDonald (Darwin dec.), Fay McClure (Bob) and Carolyn Joliceur, and her brothers Larry McCormick (Carolyn), Richard McCormick (Marjorie) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Sandy Gensey. She loved all of them dearly.

Eileen worked tirelessly to support her children and encourage strong values. To provide support to her family she began a small business in the basement of her home. Her creativity and strong business sense led to the establishment of a chain of four popular and successful stores in Brockville, Gananoque and Kingston. “Millends” became a household word. Eileen strongly emboldened her family to achieve all they could in their schooling, sports, church life and in their careers. She was proud of and took comfort in her family who are a testament to her diligence.

Eileen had a very curious nature and especially liked to meet people, to visit with anyone and everyone and to introduce new friends to each other. She was an avid reader who thoroughly enjoyed a good discussion about current affairs. Eileen enjoyed gardening, nature and hosting house parties and inviting everyone she knew.

Eileen was a Christian who having lived a full life on earth looked forward to eternal life in heaven.

Memorial gifts can be made to one of Eileen’s favorite charities, Covenant House serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk, 20 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, Ontario M5B 2P3 or a charity of your choice.
