Obituary for Mary Shirley Hanton (Truelove)

HANTON, Mary Shirley (Truelove)

In the presence of her loving family, Shirley Hanton passed away peacefully at a hospice in Kingston, on Tuesday, March 23 at the age of 79 years. She is survived by her daughters Kate Hanton (Jen Brittain) and Jennifer Hanton (Ainley Ching). She will be sadly missed by her dear friend, travelling companion and sister-in-law Gail (late Donnie) Hanton, and her nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brother-in-law Keith Hanton (Maxine). Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack Hanton and her daughter Patricia, parents Norman Truelove and Mary Poole Duncan, her brother Jim (late Sharon) and sister Margaret Barrie (late John), half siblings Fred, Norma, Elaine, and Frank. Shirley grew up in Westport and obtained her education at Queen’s University. She had a career in teaching, and she and Jack raised their family in Frankville. Shirley was an avid reader who enjoyed the outdoors, canoeing, gardening and taking care of the birds in her backyard. As was Shirley’s wish, there will not be a service. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. She will be interred at Lehigh Cemetery in Frankville with her husband Jack and daughter Patricia. Special thanks to Providence Care Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit in Kingston for their wonderful care, Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, J.W. MacIntosh Community Support Services for their PSW care, Saint Elizabeth Health Care for their nursing support, dear friend Patsy Doyle, “the Westport Girls” and the other friends, family and neighbours who helped our mother on her journey.
