Obituary for Raymond Thomas "'Joe'" Barnden

BARNDEN, Raymond Thomas “Joe”
Joe passed away peacefully at Arbour Heights, on September 7, 2019. Joe, beloved husband of Donna (nee Stevens) for 57 years. Loving father to Kelly Paquin, Marnie Brooks and Tom (Andrea), grandfather to Brooke George (Tyler), David Bowes (Terri-Lynn), Georgia Brooks, Jayna and Sydney Barnden, and great-grandfather to Lennox and Bo George and Tyson Bowes. Predeceased by his parents Tom and Hazel and brother Ron (Marjorie).

Joe and Donna raised their family primarily in Sydenham, Ontario with a year in Western Australia and eventually moved to their home on the lake where they have lived since 1987. A graduate of Sydenham High School, Peterborough Teacher’s College and Queen’s University - Bachelor of Arts, he was an elementary school teacher and Vice Principal in the Frontenac County Board of Education for over 24 years. After retiring from teaching, Joe and Donna bought a Petro Canada station in Harrowsmith called Barney’s, all while growing a bustling Amway business both in Canada and Australia.

Anyone that knew Joe knows of his love of music. He played several instruments including banjo, guitar, fiddle and mandolin and spent the last several years playing and singing with the Piccadilly Pickers.

Joe had a strong faith that began as a young man when he was a choir boy at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Sydenham. He was a beacon of light with a twinkle in his eyes. He passed with a smile on his sweet face as he went to meet his brother and parents in heaven.
