Obituary for Verdun Bauder
BAUDER, Verdun
Verdun Bauder passed away suddenly March 2, 2019 at Helen Henderson Care Centre Lodge in his 88th year. He is survived by his wife Maureen Teevens and daughters Sarah and Genna Bauder as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with Verdun’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A private inurnment will take place later at Desert Lake Cemetery.
Verdun was a deeply creative and artistically gifted man.
An Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music In Toronto (ARCT), he composed beautiful classical piano music throughout his life and in the 1960’s founded the folk group The Persephone Singers that performed extensively throughout Eastern Ontario and Northern New York State.
A visual artist in the realism style with the medium of dry brush tempera, his beautiful paintings grace the walls of several hundred homes and head offices in Canada and the US. His pen and ink drawings of nature and rural Ontario were published for several years in the 1980s in the Kingston Whig Standard.
As a writer, he had short stories successfully produced by CBC radio in the 1960’s and in recent years rekindled his passion for short-story writing. He was also a keen woodworker in the Shaker-style, creating dozens of beautiful pieces over the years, and had an impressive ‘green thumb’ growing orchids, fruit trees and beautiful gardens with amazing success.
A quiet and sensitive man, Verdun will be missed by all those who loved him.
