Obituary for Douglas Arthur Boufford

BOUFFORD, Douglas Arthur

Douglas Arthur Boufford, 76, of Kingston, Ontario, passed away on November 9, 2022 with his beloved partner, Sharon Lillis, by his side. Doug’s determination and his love of life allowed him to fight bravely over the past few months until he was set free to rejoin his parents on the date of his mother’s birthday.

Doug was born on June 30, 1946 to Donald David Boufford and Veronica Marie Boufford in Windsor, Ontario. He spent his childhood in Windsor with his parents and beloved older brother, Don. After graduating from Corpus Christi High School he began his first career in radiology sciences in 1970, ultimately returning to school at the University of Toronto and graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980. Doug attained his Chartered Accountancy diploma in 1984, beginning his 38 year career as a chartered accountant. Doug thoroughly enjoyed his work and invested his spare time into expanding his skills. In 1996 he became a Certified Fraud Examiner and went on to complete the Dispute Resolution Program at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, where he served on and chaired the Institute Professional Conduct Committee and served on the Institute Practice Inspection Committee. He was also a longstanding Associate Member of the Certified Forensic Investigators of Canada.

Doug consistently gave back to the local community, including the Rotary Club of Kingston. He also taught as an Associate Professor at Brock University. Doug served his clients with the utmost professionalism and care until the day he entered the hospital, and will be remembered as an esteemed member of the local accounting community and the profession.
Doug enjoyed life to the fullest, always taking the opportunity to find the positive in people. Doug lit up a room with his cheerful demeanor, penchant for humour, love of storytelling and frequent camera flash. He cherished spending time with his family, friends and loved ones, cultivating meaningful friendships wherever life took him. He was an accomplished photographer with an eye for capturing pivotal memories for family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to photograph important moments at his nieces’ sporting and family events, taking the time to develop these images in his darkroom at home and leaving these treasured childhood memories to his nieces. He was a fantastic cook who loved to try new recipes and share everything he created. Doug embraced new adventures and was always eager to learn, earning his credentials to become a professional soccer and rugby photographer. Doug discovered a passion for travel and began spending winters in Spain where he met the love of his life, Sharon. They spent the past five years together, embarking on new adventures and making special memories together. Their relationship and the years that they spent together were some of the happiest of his life. Doug was a central part of the lives of his brother, Don, his nieces, grandnieces, and grandnephews. The special brotherly bond forged in Windsor during their formative years never dissipated as Doug and Don remained close throughout their adult lives, with Doug being an adored figure not only in the lives of his nieces but in their children as well, filling their hearts with laughter and their stomachs with his cherished cooking.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Veronica, father, Donald and grandnephew, James DiPelino. Doug is survived by his brother, Donald Edward Boufford, cousins Denise Ducharme and Patricia Ducharme, nieces, Kim MacKenzie (David MacKenzie), Christine DiPelino (Edward DiPelino), Wendy Boufford (James Murdock) and Jennifer Boufford, grandnieces Alisse DiPelino, Lauren MacKenzie, Allison Murdock and Sophie Murdock, and grandnephews Kenny MacKenzie and Jameson Murdock.

Doug will be remembered fondly and sorely missed by all who knew him. His positive spirit lives on in all those whose lives he touched.
