Obituary for Elsie May Parkinson

PARKINSON, Elsie May

Born on October 26, 1923, Ealing, UK, passed away on January 16, 2021 at Arbour Heights, Kingston, Ontario.

Predeceased by her parents Leonard and Hilda Adams, brother George (WWII 1941), sister Muriel Christmas (2007) and devoted husband John (1992).

Survived by nieces Georgina Moore and Sue Langdon in Canada and, in the UK, Janet Riley, Susan Orchard and Parkinson nephews Edward, Norman and Gerald. Also, three further generations of nieces and nephews in Canada, the US and the UK, including her great- great-grand niece 4 year old “little Elsie” who visited from the UK in 2018. Elsie was fondly universally known as “Auntie” to family members and their friends.

After Elsie retired in 1984 from an administrative position in local government in England, she and John moved to Canada and settled in Kingston. They were active participants and leaders in many seniors groups, including the Canada UK Dance Club, Silver Wings and Centre 70, where Elsie also volunteered at the Sharing Centre. With her sister Muriel, Elsie produced and appeared in many amateur dramatic entertainments for these groups and she brought fun and enjoyment in this way to her friends and neighbours at Sutton Mills Court where she was a longtime resident. Elsie continued participating in activities when she moved to Arbour Heights just before her 96th Birthday and was very appreciative of the kindness and care she received there.

Regrettably, the current COVID restrictions prevent family and friends from gathering to share remembrances at this time. If desired, donations to the Kingston Humane Society, 1 Binnington Court, Kingston, Ontario K7M 8M9 in Elsie’s memory would be gratefully appreciated.
