Obituary for George Thomas "Tom" Whaley

WHALEY George Thomas

Peacefully, after a long illness, and with his devoted wife of 67 years by his side, George Thomas Whaley, in his 90th year passed into rest on October 12, 2019. Devoted husband of Helen (Blyth) Whaley, father of Scot (Sue) Whaley, Sarah (Ralph) Whaley-Vallis, and Andy Whaley. Loving grandpa of Dana (Kevin O’Brien) Whaley, Tyler, and Emily (Scott) Bazylewski. Great grandfather of Alexander and Matthew. Predeceased by parents George & Victoria and sister Donna (Kirkby).Tom was an active resident of Gananoque all his life. He served in the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps. and the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves. He worked at the Thousand Islands Railway and Ontario Steel Products/Rockwell International and then at Canada Customs at Hill Island where he retired in 1993. Following retirement, Tom was active in the community for 35 years, serving on town council, committees and volunteering his time to the Festival of the Islands Shore Breakfasts, and the Gananoque Loan Cupboard assisting Ken Stewart. He was very active in the Gananoque branch of the Canadian Legion and was the recipient of the 60 year service pin. Tom had many friends and will always be remembered for his good nature and humour and many one liners. “When you’re down by the river, drop in.”
A celebration of life will be held on November 9th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 92 in Gananoque. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
