Obituary for Evelyn Maude Kilner

Evelyn Kilner (Foster)

There was singing in Heaven as Evelyn was received by her parents, family and friends who gone on before her. She went to be with her Lord Friday September 26, 2014. She struggled these last few months and is now at peace.

Ev was born in Barrie Ontario in 1921, the daughter of Frank and Edith Foster (nee Cousins). She enjoyed a wonderful 93 years, especially her last 73 years of marriage with Harvey Kilner.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Harvey, sister-in-law Bunny Foster, brother-in-law Ian Thomas and her children Ron Kilner (Bea), Gord Kilner (Jan), and Ellen Mulder (Gerry). She will be missed by her grandchildren Michelle, Kim, Rob, Tina, Dale, Tammy, Tracey, Jeff, Steve and Johanna along with many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Evelyn was predeceased by her mom and dad, brothers Frank (Lenore) Foster, Archie (Billy) Foster, Herb (Eileen) Foster, Gord (Molly) Foster, Maurie Foster, and her sisters Joyce Thomas, Audrey (Kee) Struyk, Mert (Stuart) Scott, Mae (Mac) McAskin and Dot (George) Bell in Heaven.

Evelyn dedicated her life to looking after her family. She moved around the province many times and wherever she went, she made new friends around a game of bridge or just visiting. She and Harvey loved their cottage on White Lake near Godfrey where visitors were always welcomed with open arms. They took up farming on Moscow Road for a few years and then, while in their 70's, they built their own home on Keeley Road (with lots of help from the kids!). In 2002, Ev and Harv moved in with their daughter and husband in Kingston where they spent many sunny afternoons enjoying the backyard. They enjoyed attending the services at Kingston West Free Methodist Church in their later years before moving to the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee in 2012 where Harvey still lives.

In the last few years of her life, Evelyn was cared for by the wonderful staff at the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee. Although Ev's quality of life diminished in the last few months of her life, you could tell she appreciated the visits from family and friends.

Acting on her wishes, Ev was cremated and interment will be at the Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston. A celebration service will be held in Evelyn's honour on Wednesday October 8, 2014, at Kingston West Free Methodist Church, 1575 Woodbine Road West, in Kingston (613-384-8878). There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. with the service starting at 11:00 a.m. There will be a light luncheon at the church with internment to follow. In lieu of flowers, we would like you to consider a donation in Evelyn's name to the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee, Ontario.
